The Best Christmas Movies Ever 9

Most people know by now that we are a family who like our traditions. We love having Team Lloyd traditions and we really enjoy the fun family time we get through our traditions – so we find ourselves in December – Christmas is a big deal in our house. I have a full host of emotions that I will be discussing over the coming days. It was Christmas Day last year that Daddy Lloyd and I made the decision that we were “officially trying” for a baby with our Christmas Wish being put down that by next Christmas (this Christmas) we would be opening presents with an extra stocking hanging, and two excited children (Ok so one excited 6 year old and a breastfeeding newborn) sat around our Christmas tree, so the sadness that sits with us daily feels bigger and heavier than ever.

But whilst dealing with the sorrow we are again faced with still putting a brave face on and giving B Lloyd a wonderful Team Lloyd Christmas, and actually in the mix of that comes along a Daddy and Mummy Lloyd tradition.

Christmas Movies!

Yup. We watch a Christmas Movie every night leading up to the big night whilst awaiting his arrival. Now it takes careful precision planning on which movies make the list, there are only 24 nights so anything not up to standard runs the risk of being kicked off the list for the next Christmas Movie Season. Yes it is that epic that it becomes a season, films get added by merit alone, and have to withhold the test of time – timeless classics never get boring, not when we are talking the power of Believing and the Christmas Spirit.

Obviously we start on December 1st – it is officially the first day of christmas after all but this year we delayed by a day as we were still celebrating B Lloyd’s birthday and Christmas only happens once her birthday has been and gone. (The trouble of having a birthday on November 30th) So last night, yup, we double backed two films so we are on track.

We do however have a slight problem this year, as we have added so many movies over the last couple of years we are actually at 35 movies – is it possible? Without further ado I introduce you to the greatest Christmas Movies of all time, and yes it really does matter in what order you watch them!

  • Elf (of course!)
  • Nativity
  • Jingle All The Way
  • Muppets Christmas Carol
  • Christmas With The Kranks
  • National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
  • Charlie Brown Christmas
  • Arthur Christmas (New in this year after seeing at the cinema last season but its a goodie! and one B Lloyd enjoys too)
  • Home Alone
  • Home Alone 2
  • Scrooged
  • Deck The Halls
  • Planes Trains and Automobiles
  • Santa Claus The Movie
  • Trading Places
  • The Santa Clause
  • The Santa Clause 2
  • The Santa Clause 3 (of course)
  • Lethal Weapon (Daddy Lloyd insists this is included)
  • It’s A Wonderful Life
  • Father Christmas (A whole Team Lloyd event and often repeated Christmas Eve Afternoon)
  • The Snowman (A whole Team Lloyd event and often repeated Christmas Eve Afternoon)
  • Polar Express
  • Bad Santa
  • The Holiday
  • Fred Claus
  • The Grinch
  • Mickey’s Christmas Carol
  • Four Christmases
  • Sleepless in Seattle (Daddy Lloyd still not convinced on this one but its a CLASSIC)
  • Nightmare Before Christmas

We then of course reach Christmas Eve and there is a very strict routine of films that must be watched whilst waiting for Santa to arrive, starting with

  • Love Actually
  • Miracle on 34th Street
  • Die Hard
  • Die Hard 2

But we are gonna do it – it’s a challenge we take on every year and this year is no different…so if you don’t hear from us we are not ignoring you we are just ploughing our way through the Christmas Movie Season 2012 to try and find that Christmas Cheer we have always so loved.

What a tradition! I’d be tempted to pinch it but with Rich being away until the 9th, we’d have some catching up to do (though I guess he could do that solo on the flight home alone!)

  • Actually Mummy...

I love that you do this!
Christmas Eve is always the Snowman, then the Night Before Christmas before the kids go to bed, then Actually Daddy and I watch either the Holiday or Love Actually while we sip champagne and eat smoked salmon!
Never watched Miracle on 34th street with the kids, but I think this will be the year. Ooooh I’m all tingly!

Oh I’ve been looking for a list of fab Christmas movies, thank you for this! Each year I like to buy a new one, we have a collection now 🙂 We have 1 Christmas movie night with popcorn, usually the Saturday night before Christmas. A few years ago it was polar express and last year National Lampoons! Sleepless in Seattle is one of my all-time favourites though 🙂 thinking of Team Lloyd this Christmas, well done for keeping going x x

Great list, we always watch ‘White Christmas’ mainly so I can sing along happily, then on Christmas Eve, it is Independence Day – bet Daddy Llloyd would love to see that one again but I do agree wholeheartedly with Diehard 1&2!

I’ve got one for you to try. It’s my equal favourite with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. It might be hard to find here but it’s called “A Christmas Story”. Decidedly American, decidedly hilarious…I’ll leave it at that but suffice it to say, I know every line and have seen it approximately 8 billion times. xx

That is one comprehensive list of Christmas films and great mix of adult and children films! We also consider the first Alvin and the Chipmunks film to be a Christmassy one because Sophia loves their Christmas song
